Dear Rouge
Sep 21, 2018
“Little By Little” is the latest track from Drew and Danielle McTaggart, better known as Dear Rouge.
While the couple was touring and enjoying the thrill of success, many of their friends and family back home in Vancouver were going through hard times. Drew had a death in the family. The juxtaposition of their current life with that of the people they loved became the basis of their newest project, “Phases” out now via Dear Rouge/Strange Loop. Created through sessions with carefully chosen collaborators, Phases captures a massive stride forward in the band’s evolution.
If Dear Rouge’s approach to “Phases” could be summed up in a phrase, it would be this: “grit and gloss.” It’s a mantra that sums up the balance of sheen (pristine synths, Danielle’s laser-focused vocals) and punchy grime (unfettered guitars, propulsive percussion)—and, says Drew, it speaks to “who we are as people.”
Dear Rouge was formed in 2012 in Vancouver. Since putting out their debut EP in 2012, Drew and Danielle have been on a continually upward trajectory. That independent release led to another one, and people began to notice. Songwriting prizes, a record deal, multiple number one singles in Canada, and a 2016 Juno (Canadian Grammy) for Breakthrough Group of the Year followed.
Dear Rouge have fall U.S. Tour dates beginning October 8th in Brooklyn, NY.
