Gorillaz
Jun 1, 2018
A brand new studio album from Gorillaz titled “The Now Now” will be released by Warner Bros. Records on June 29th, and is available for pre-order now with the lead single “Humility” and instant grat track “Lake Zurich.” This collection was produced by Gorillaz, with James Ford and Remi Kabaka, and recorded entirely at Studio 13, London in February this year.
In contrast to the cast of characters that joined the apocalyptic party thrown by Damon Albarn and his cartoon crew on last year’s multiple-GRAMMY-nominated HUMANZ , The Now Now sees the band largely eschewing guest stars, taking it back to the core Gorillaz crew: blue-haired, sweet-natured dreamer 2D on vocals; whip-smart Japanese badass Noodle on guitar; Brooklyn-born philosopher and the meat–behind-the-beat Russel Hobbs on drums. And with Murdoc Niccals temporarily indisposed, bass duties on the new album have been taken up by erstwhile Gangreen Gang member Ace (explaining the “FREE MURDOC” signage that’s been popping up everywhere from Coachella to the Kentucky Derby to Change.org and Reddit).
Virtual group Gorillaz is made up of singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, guitarist Noodle and drummer Russel Hobbs. Created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, their acclaimed eponymous debut album was released in 2001. The BRIT and Grammy Award winning band’s subsequent albums are “Demon Days” (2005), “Plastic Beach” (2010), “The Fall” (2011) and “Humanz” (2017).
Gorillaz recently announced that they will bring “The Now Now Tour” to North America this fall. The Now Now Tour will kick off October 8th in Toronto and make stops in Montreal, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Chicago. The U.S. debut of Gorillaz’ own acclaimed Demon Dayz Festival will feature The Demon Dayz L.A. lineup comprised of special guests and collaborators from within and beyond the Gorillaz extended family on October 20th.
