Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Rainbow Kitten Surprise released their third studio album and major label debut, “How To: Friend, Love, Freefall” on April 6th via Elektra Records/RRP. “Fever Pitch” is the name of the newest single out now from the collection. The song beautifully evolves from silky smooth to dance driven, perfectly combing elements of Rock, Soul and Hip Hop. The album was produced by Grammy Award-winner Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, The Head And The Heart, FIDLAR) and recorded at Neon Cross Studio in Nashville.
In creating the album, the band immersed themselves in a deliberate sonic exploration that made heavy use of the studio’s treasure trove of vintage instruments, infusing their music with the kinetic energy of discovery. And in sculpting the inventive arrangements and ever-morphing textures of How To: Friend, Love, Freefall, Rainbow Kitten Surprise embedded each track with indelible melody and chilling harmonies with a long-lingering power.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise front-man Sam Melo explains how he spits out lyrics in a stream-of-consciousness style, “I’m a compulsive writer,” he says. “As soon as something’s done, I don’t even listen to the last cut—I’m on to the next thing. It’s like an addiction for me.”
In reflecting on the making of “How To: Friend, Love, Freefall,” Melo notes that the album marks a major evolution for Rainbow Kitten Surprise, on both an artistic and personal level. “Before this record, I’d feared that opening the lines of communication would destroy the ecosystem of this fledgling world I was building,” he says. “I didn’t want to let anyone else in until it was fully developed, because otherwise it would be compromised or get watered down. This was the first time that everyone had a hand in building that world before and during our time in the studio, and it ended up being the most solid work we’ve ever produced.”
Rainbox Kitten is made up of Sam Melo (lead vox), Darrick “Bozzy” Keller (guitar/vox), Ethan Goodpaster (lead guitar/vox), Jess Haney (drums) and Charlie Holt (bass/vox). They were formed in early 2013 in North Carolina. What started as just two college students with acoustic guitars would soon turn into a full-fledged band. After riveting performances at CMJ and Savannah Stopover, their fan-base has grown from the small college town of Boone to all over the world. They have released two previous albums, “Seven + Mary” (2013) and “RKS” (2015).
In support of the new record, the dynamic five-piece are embarking on an extensive North American tour this spring called “The Friend, Love, Freefall Tour.”
