“Darkness At The Door” is the new single from the Birmingham U.K. band, Editors. It can be found on their sixth album, “Violence,” released on March 9th via PIAS America. This is their first album in three years.
About the new album, front-man Tom Smith explained, “We had a lot of help from a guy called Blanck Mass, who makes very brutal electronic music. So when it’s electronic, it’s very electronic. But then when it’s guitar-y, it’s very band driven. I think we’ve managed to find the balance of those two things better than we have done before. Over the years, we’ve gone from backwards between more band-orientated sounding records and more electronic records. I think there’s a balance here between melody and brutality that I don’t think we’ve managed to get before. There’s a thread on a lot of these songs – the need for human connection or coming together as people; an intimacy, with a loved one or a friend, as an escape from the outside world.”
Formed in 2002, Editors currently consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (lead guitar) and Elliott Williams (keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals). They have so far released two platinum studio albums, and six in total, with several million combined sales. Their debut album “The Back Room” was released in 2005 featuring the singles "Munich" and "Blood." Alongside their critical acclaim and strong success in the charts, Editors have consistently enjoyed sold-out tours and numerous headlining festival slots. Their brand of dark indie rock is commonly compared to the sound of bands such as Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, Interpol, The Chameleons and U2.
Editors are confirmed to be supporting The Cure at their 40th anniversary show in London’s Hyde Park on July 7th. Before that, they will play a few shows in the U.S. in support of “Violence.”
