The sixth studio album from Ballyhoo! will be released On March 24 via Right Coast Records/INgrooves. Entitled “Girls.,” the collection will feature 12 new tracks with Jared Watson of Dirty Heads featured on the track “She Wants Love” the Reel Big Fish horn section on “Ras Vader.” “Girls.” will be the first full-length album from the Baltimore-based quartet in four years and Ballyhoo! have already released two of the forthcoming tracks as singles — the reverb-driven and lightly romantic “Mixtape” along with the tropically vibrant self-titled “Girls.”
Lead vocalist and guitarist Howi Spangler explains, “We got to be known as a party band, writing songs about drinking, smoking weed and shit like that, and we kind of got away from that with ‘Daydreams’ and ‘Pineapple Grenade.’ Which is fine because I’m really proud of those records… I guess [our music] has always had a really upbeat feel no matter what, but we really want to accentuate it now with our next album.”
Formed in 1995 and currently based in Aberdeen, Maryland, Ballyhoo! is made up of members, Howi Spangler (Lead Vocals & Guitar), Donald Spangler (Drums), Scott Vandrey (Keyboards & Programming & Vocal Harmonies) and Nick Lucera (Bass). They have opened up for 311, Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, and Slightly Stoopid on previous tours.
Following the 311 Caribbean March 2-6, Ballyhoo! continue on the SpringBreak ’98 Tour with Passfire and Bumpin Uglies which ends May 26th at The 8th Annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival.
